what is a cyberdeck?

A cyberdeck is a computer you make yourself.

Think of it as an app on your phone, but physical. It can be anything you want. For this program it has 3 requirements:

  1. It uses a Raspberry Pi Pico as its brain.
  2. It takes some kind of input, whether that is a button or a sensor.
  3. It has an output, whether that is a screen, a light or a sound.

what is hack club?

Hack Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that runs programs and events to encourage more students to build and publish engineering projects.

We’re a community of 100,000+ high schoolers in 119 countries who learn by building things. Artists, engineers, hardware makers, game devs: everyone’s welcome, and nobody needs experience to start.

FAQ

Am I eligible?
Yes, if you are a teenager. Hack Club programs are for people aged 13 to 18, anywhere in the world.
Is this legit?
Yes. Hack Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and has shipped hardware to teenagers through programs like this one for years. Ask anyone in the Hack Club Slack.
What can I make?
Anything with a Raspberry Pi Pico for a brain and at least one input. A tiny handheld, a desk gadget, a sensor station, a game console. You decide.
What if I’ve never done electronics before?
Then you are exactly who this is for. The guide starts from zero, and you write and run your code in a simulator in the browser before any parts arrive.
